Loredana Nemes
GRAUBAUM UND HIMMELMEER
Over the course of four years and as many seasons, Loredana Nemes photographed the beech forest of Rügen, which shapes the landscape above the famous chalk cliffs steeped in art and history. What began as a leisurely stroll has become an impressive long-term photographic study of this ‘forest seascape’.
The resulting images depict an ancient, archaic landscape that has survived countless generations and which future generations will still experience: the peace, beauty, robustness and fragility of the beech trees against the flat, timeless horizon of the sea; the magic of the mist, the light, the clouds, the snow, the seasons. At the same time, they also convey the transience and the threat to which the forests are exposed due to climate change.
Perhaps the beech trees of the Königsstuhl also reminded Loredana Nemes of the forests of the Romanian Carpathians that she used to roam as a child with her father, and thus explain the profound feeling expressed in her images? The beech trees of Rügen are, in any case, linked to the beech trees of the Carpathians and form part of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site ‘Primeval and Ancient Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe’.
Pendant quatre ans et autant de saisons, Loredana Nemes a photographié la forêt de hêtres de Rügen, qui façonne le paysage au-dessus des célèbres falaises de craie chargées d'art et d'histoire. Ce qui a commencé comme une promenade récréative est devenu une impressionnante observation photographique à long terme de ce « paysage marin forestier ».
Les images qui en résultent montrent un paysage ancien et archaïque qui a survécu à d'innombrables générations et que les générations futures connaîtront encore : la paix, la beauté, la robustesse et la fragilité des hêtres sur l'horizon plat et intemporel de la mer ; la magie du brouillard, de la lumière, des nuages, de la neige, des saisons. Dans le même temps, ils traduisent également le caractère éphémère et la menace à laquelle les forêts sont exposées en raison du changement climatique.
Peut-être que les hêtres du Königsstuhl ont également rappelé à Loredana Nemes les forêts des Carpates roumaines qu'elle parcourait lorsqu'elle était enfant avec son père et expliquent ainsi le sentiment profond exprimé dans ses images ? Les hêtres de Rügen sont en tout cas liés aux hêtres des Carpates et font partie du patrimoine naturel mondial de l'UNESCO « Forêts de hêtres anciennes et originales des Carpates et d'autres régions d'Europe ».
