«Le Château Rouge N°1» is the first book of a multi-part photographic essay. The title refers to a Parisian subway station, which becomes here a fictional place. From this starting point, a journey through Paris and other destinations begins, with the aim of capturing images with particular colors and lights in the heart of daily life. “Le Bateau Ivre” (“The Drunken Boat”) is his second series. The title is borrowed from the poem by French poet Arthur Rimbaud. In this new series, he masterfully juggles image groups and colors.

Born in 1982, Austrian artist Martin Essl lives and works in Paris. After studying at the University of Art in Linz, Austria and the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d'Art in Paris. Né en 1982, l'artiste autrichien Martin Essl vit et travaille à Paris. Après avoir étudié à l'Université des Arts de Linz, en Autriche, et à l'ENSAAMA - Olivier de Serres à Paris.
