Gérard Musy was born in 1959 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. In 1983, while still a student at the University of Geneva, he began to photograph New York nights. In the sophisticated black and white of the "Sexy Eighties", he photographed the collections of the greatest fashion designers as well as the creatures dressed in leather, latex and glitter that reigned over the nightlife of Paris, London or New York. At a time when photographers were crowding around the catwalks, Gérard Musy, with his Leica, was one of the first to take over the backstage. Women are the heroines of his photos: seductive, conniving, sultry or dominating.
Gérard Musy est né en 1959 à La Chaux-de-Fonds, en Suisse. En 1983, alors encore étudiant à l’Université de Genève, il commence à photographier les nuits new-yorkaises. Dans le noir et blanc sophistiqué des Sexy Eighties, il immortalise les collections des plus grands créateurs de mode, ainsi que les créatures vêtues de cuir, de latex et de paillettes qui régnaient sur les nuits de Paris, Londres ou New York. À une époque où les photographes se bousculaient autour des podiums, Gérard Musy, armé de son Leica, fut l’un des premiers à investir les coulisses. Les femmes sont les héroïnes de ses images : séductrices, complices, sensuelles ou dominantes.
