Loan Nguyen is not writing a great narrative. Like a haiku, she does not want to
describe or define, but rather point at with a gesture. As in a haiku, the subject is not considered in her pictures. Both forms of expression are not fraught with metaphysical symbols. They do not want to manipulate the world, they simply say: it is this, it is so. Haiku and Mobile are both rooted in contemplation, both come from the tradition of Zen. Loan Nguyen’s photographs give account of the duration of a moment of meditative freedom and contemplative silence. The artist gives a title to each of her photographs,
in which the word (signifier) and the represented (signified) are not gaping apart, but are united in one. Loan Nguyen’s different way lies in the directness of the “Neutrum”. It
is this immediacy of a “suspended time”, that finds a home in her pictures.
