| When
Esther Woerdehoff started, 15 years ago, to expose photographs
in
her apartment at Grossmünsterplatz 2 in Zurich, Switzerland,
the address became
quickly an essential reference for contemporary photography.
In short time, the
gallery, with its contemporary program, took an important
place in the photography
milieu in Switzerland.
With the move of the Gallery Esther Woerdehoff to Paris, the
artistic program
was widened. Since 1996, the gallery exposes on the one hand
photography from
1930 to 1960. In addition, it grants a broad place to contemporary
photography.
The repertory ignores voluntarily all borders between photography
and art. Multi-
media art, photo collage and work of artists using painting
in photography completes
the exhibition program.
The gallery has always attached a great importance to collaboration
with museums
and institutions. Thanks to this engagement, the position
at the international art
market has been reinforced for artists like Laurence Demaison,
Loan Nguyen and
Matthias Koch.
Gallery Esther Woerdehoff also takes part in international
fairs such as Art Basel,
Paris Photo, Aipad and Art Cologne. The gallery makes a point
in presenting to
the public the close relation which can exist between traditional
photography and contemporary art. In addition to the above-mentioned
photographers, the last
editions have been marked by the works of artists as strong
as Erwin Blumenfeld,
Diane Arbus, Sabine Dehnel, Barbara and Michael Leisgen, Chema
Madoz and
Arthur Tress.
